"Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't going away." - Elvis Presley
The quote above summarizes the general theme of TCB Discussions. If you are a fan, you are aware that there are many untruths surrounding Elvis Presley. We have all heard of the bizarre "Elvis is alive" conspiracy theories and the criticism that he stole music. To put it simply, there is a lot of BS out there! I intended to put these thoughts aside and focus on two things: The first is that even though Elvis had his faults, he was a decent man. The second is that, as a result of all the nonsense about him in the media, people don't take his artistic and musical capabilities seriously. Behind the icon, there was a very talented and unique man who wanted nothing more than to bring people together through his music. I want to say right off the bat that this isn't going to be one of those blogs that praises everything that Elvis released. Like many other music artists, there is some not-so-good material in his catalog. I will provide an objective perspective that includes the history and reasons behind why certain decisions were made, but I will add my thoughts toward the end of each article.
It would be wrong of me not to mention a few people who were sources of inspiration for this blog. Firstly, I definitely wouldn't be here without the TCBCast: An Unofficial Elvis Presley Podcast (a podcast that I highly recommend checking out). Ever since I've been listening to this show for the last two years, the hosts and co-hosts have inspired me to dig deep into the history behind Elvis' music and movies. While they have a sincere appreciation for Elvis, they aren't afraid to be critical of him when necessary, which I appreciate. Another influence on my blog is a fan account on Instagram called @myboy_myboy_. When I first started posting on my account, the content on there gave me such a crash course in Elvis history. In a series titled "Let's Talk Elvis", the owner of this account was discussing some important topics like Elvis' health issues and his interests in spirituality. I recommend giving her account a follow. Others that bring insightful content to the fan community are the amazing @sophialoveselvis (who also is on IG) and a brilliant YouTube channel called Scotty's Elvis Presley Music Channel. While there are many accounts that I could point to for inspiration, these four content creators really motivate me to keep doing what I do in the fan community.
Writing is one of my passions; therefore, I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to write about one of the musicians who has had a significant impact on my life. Much of my research is based on articles, books, documents, and interviews that I have gathered over the two years of my fandom. I hope that all visitors will have a pleasant experience and find this blog to be insightful!
